The NZ Institute of Building (NZIOB) is calling for Young Practitioners to submit their EOIs for a new role on the National Council.
Like many professional membership organisations, the NZIOB is constantly challenged with ensuring that its membership offerings and activities in general are relevant and responsive to the younger generation of the construction industry.
To address this, the NZIOB is creating a new Young Practitioner Advisor role on the National Council. This appointee will be charged with providing a millennial voice on the NZIOB’s governance group. This role represents a significant opportunity for a rising star in the construction industry to begin their governance career.
The NZIOB is seeking registrations of interest from young construction practitioners who fit the following profile:
- Ideally be under 30 years of age;
- Ideally located in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch;
- Are employed full-time in the construction industry;
- Are either trade qualified or hold a construction focused qualification;
- Are considered a strategic thinker; and
- Can point to a career to date that is marked with accomplishments.
The requirement is to attend six Council meetings per year, all of which are day-long activities. The position is unremunerated, with all travel costs for Council members paid by (or reimbursed by) the NZIOB.
The newly created Young Practitioner Advisor role will be for a 12-month period, commencing at the October 2018 NZIOB Council meeting and concluding at the August 2019 Council meeting.
Expressions of Interest (EOI) are now being sought from suitably qualified candidates from both the NZIOB membership and industry at large (although a non-member would be expected, if appointed, to seek membership). Applicants should provide their resume and covering letter to support their application. These should be addressed to:
EOI close at 5.00pm on Monday, 1 October 2018.
To discuss the role in more detail, please contact the NZIOB National President, Graeme Birkhead, phone 029 258 6946.
