Natural hazards affect most parts of New Zealand. Understanding these natural hazards is the foundation for building resilient communities.
Steve Raynor is a resilience specialist at Tauranga City Council developing hazard mapping and mitigation projects to bring resilience to civil infrastructure. He'll share the results of several recent hazard studies completed by the council to identify projects that can develop resilience within the city and to guide the new planning rules that will be released in 2024.

About the presenter
Steve has previously worked in numerous countries involved in civil and structural engineering in environments from the hot Arabian deserts to the steaming jungles of Papua New Guinea. Steve is currently a Doctoral candidate at Waikato University developing multi-hazard mapping techniques for coastal area where sea level rise is a particular concern.
