Emerging Leader Award 2021 finalists announced
Meet the 2021 ACE New Zealand Emerging Leader Award finalists.
We've selected our three finalists for the 2021 Emerging Leader Award.
The Emerging Leader Award, sponsored by Tonkin + Taylor, recognises young people who've demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities in their consulting work and the communities they design for.
This year's finalists are:
- Courtney Champman, Beca
- Glenn Jowett, Beca
- Ryan Orr, GHD
One winner will be announced at the Future-Fit Aotearoa conference on Wednesday 8 September. The winner will receive:
- One year on the ACE New Zealand Board
- A cash prize of $1,500 NZD
- A contribution of up to NZD $10,000 towards a professional development course or conference
Two finalists will receive:
- A contribution of up to NZD $1,000 towards a professional development course or conference
Courtney Chapman, Associate Structural Engineer (Beca)
Courtney is an Associate Structural Engineer in Beca’s Wellington office, where she’s been based since graduating in 2011. She focuses on helping industrial clients, particularly in the food and beverage, water and chemicals sectors. She has a particular interest in helping her clients improve their awareness of earthquake risks, improving their business resilience, and helping navigate difficult conversations with insurers and contractors.

Glenn Jowett, Technical Director & Digital Engineering Advisory (Beca)
As a Technical Director for Digital Advisory at Beca, Glennsupports clients in making the complex transition to BIM-centric project delivery, focussing on data sharing and re-use. He is passionate about the potential of new technologies and how we interact with them to bring added value to our clients and unlock new ways of working throughout the entire asset lifecycle. Glenn has led large-scale BIM and digital transformation projects including the development of Transpower's BIM strategy, and the implementation of BIM for Hamilton City Councils City Waters team, including the multi-award winning PuketeWastewater Treatment Plant Digital Asset Management project.

Ryan Orr, Regional Leader Bay of Plenty and Waikato (GHD)
Ryan leads GHD business activity in the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions. He is the local client interface and oversees local delivery using multi-disciplinary teams across transport, water, environment, and buildings. He is a skilled Three Waters Engineer and Project Manager/Director with 12 years of experience in the industry.
