How quality management can be a lever for growth with Majid Zahoor at BSI Group

A well-structured quality management system can boost organisational performance, resilience and customer confidence.

Join Majid Zahoor, BSI Group Global Director - Healthcare Sector, at our ACE New Zealand SME Summit on Wednesday 21 May where he will share how quality management can be a lever for growth and delve into real-world examples of how standards are being used to drive innovation and scale sustainably.

We asked Majid about the value a good quality management system offers organisations regardless of size, and why you should consider implementing one if you haven't already.

Tell us about yourself – what’s your specialty?

"I currently serve as Global Director for the Healthcare Sector at BSI, bringing over 20 years of executive and operational leadership experience across Australasia and international markets. My career has focused on quality management, commercial excellence, service delivery management, and regulatory frameworks—particularly within complex, high-stakes sectors such as healthcare, telecommunications, and government.

"At BSI, I collaborate with governments, regulators, and health systems globally to co-design and implement quality management systems that enhance outcomes, strengthen safety, and build organisational resilience.

"I’m also deeply committed to mentoring future leaders and supporting businesses with achieving scalable, sustainable growth across both emerging and established markets."

What are the benefits of having a good quality management system in place?

"A well-structured quality management system (QMS) goes far beyond compliance. It provides a foundation for operational excellence, risk mitigation, and continuous improvement.

"For SMEs, it offers a practical roadmap to embed structure and discipline while enabling agility. The result is more consistent delivery, operational excellence, better customer outcomes, and greater internal alignment around what ‘good / great’ looks like."

Does having a highly regarded QMS improve client relationships and/or confidence in your business?

"Yes – without question and the research on organisational benefits of ISO 9001 are well documented. An internationally recognised QMS demonstrates to clients, investors, and partners that your business takes performance, accountability, and trust seriously. It’s a visible signal of commitment to excellence.

"For SMEs in particular, a credible and internationally recognised QMS can elevate brand reputation, unlock new markets, and foster long-term, values-based client relationships."

What will be a key takeaway from your session?

"I’ll be sharing how quality management can be a lever for growth, not just governance. Delegates will gain insight into how simple but structured approaches to quality can boost performance, resilience, and customer confidence—regardless of industry or size.

"We'll explore real-world examples of how standards are being used to drive innovation and scale sustainably."
