Meet our Waikato Regional Champion Shaun Hamilton

Shaun Hamilton is the Waikato Regional Leader for GHD and the new ACE New Zealand Regional Champion for Waikato. He is passionate about how consulting makes a real difference, from shaping infrastructure to creating places that improve our communities. We asked Shaun about his career and what he brings to the role.

Tell us about your career

I have a background in planning and have spent my career in the consulting world – aside from a two‑year stint in the UK doing the classic ‘OE’ many of us do. The sectors I have worked in include transport, water, waste, energy, and development.

What are the consulting and engineering strengths of your region?

The Waikato is experiencing amazing levels of growth, with Hamilton being the fastest growing city in the country and its position in the golden triangle.

In the Waikato we have a good range of consulting capability from smaller boutique / niche firms through to offices of large multinational companies.

But, regardless of size, we’re here to deliver value to the communities that we live in, and I think it’s this diversity that is a strength for consulting in the region.

What strengths do you bring to the Regional Champion role?

My strength is building genuine connections. I really enjoy chatting and connecting with people and understanding what drives their decisions and concerns. As Regional Champion, I’ll engage with professionals across Waikato – from small firms to large organisations – to grasp the key issues facing our members in today’s evolving legislative environment, and communicate these concerns directly to ACE, ensuring our local challenges are clearly understood.

I’ll also work to make sure members fully appreciate the benefits and services that ACE offers, and I aim to highlight our unique priorities and foster a supportive dialogue by keeping an open line of communication between local professionals and national leadership.

I’m committed to building a resilient consulting community in Waikato – one that’s well informed, closely connected, and equipped to navigate today’s challenges – through regular conversations and collaborative events where possible.

Tell us something interesting about yourself

I enjoy anything outdoors and can generally be found on my mountain bike most weekends or hiking the many trails around the Waikato with my family.

What’s the best way for members to get in touch with you?
