Slowdown continues for 75% of businesses: Survey
We continue to hear from professional services consultancies that there is a significant slowdown in the pipeline of work. In November 2024, we surveyed ACE New Zealand members to understand the current environment, whether the Government's announcements around infrastructure and planning have made a difference on the ground, and what they’d like to happen next.
The Government has ambitious plans for the building and infrastructure sectors and has been making some good progress in thinking about our long-term needs and how we will deliver infrastructure well into the future. However,
despite progress on our long-term planning being made, more immediately, and with ongoing economic pressures, many members are continuing to struggle keep their businesses afloat.
In April and July this year we surveyed ACE New Zealand members to get a picture of the state of the sector and business experiences. The results showed us there was significant uncertainty and business confidence was low. Members told us they needed to see more work come to market to sustain capacity. They also wanted to see more efficient procurement practices.
In November we repeated our survey to ensure we have a clear picture of the current state of the sector, and the barriers and opportunities we see ahead for effective and efficient infrastructure delivery in Aotearoa.
We received 60 responses (around 22% of total member firms). 71% of respondents had firms with fewer than 50 employees which represents the makeup of the ACE membership which is made up predominately by small and medium sized firms.
