Pipeline certainty

About

A committed pipeline of work is crucial for the stability and growth of our industry. It gives businesses confidence to plan for the long term, retain and building capability, and invest in technology.

It takes the consulting sector time and money to gear up for a project, from developing business cases, to pulling together a bid, to recruiting, to mobilising and building a team.

Major infrastructure projects can run longer than political cycles in New Zealand. When projects are placed on hold, or changes are made, there’s a negative impact for businesses and the wider productivity of the sector, which affects our communities.

The Government is working to develop new structures and frameworks that will help provide certainty, including:

However, effective and efficient project delivery requires planning and co-ordination across agencies and all levels of government, rolled out in a methodical way.

Recommendation

We want committed long-term infrastructure planning that transcends political cycles and agreement on a long-term vision for Aotearoa New Zealand so we have a clear roadmap to guide infrastructure investment.

This will ensure that projects are aligned with the country’s long-term economic and environmental goals, and businesses can establish themselves to deliver for New Zealanders beyond the short political cycles.
